Zimbabwe Election Result 2018: Ruling ZANU-PF Wins Majority in Parliament

There are 210 seats in the National Assembly's lower house.

Zanu-PF has won the majority seats in Parliament, according to Zimbabwe's Electoral Commission. This was the first election since the army removed Robert Mugabe from power last year. Mugabe was ousted after staying in power for 37 years. According to reports, the ruling Zanu-PF is winning the majority of seats in parliament with more than two thirds of the results declared, and the opposition behind by a huge margin.

As per an Independent report, acting President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s party is heading for a sizeable majority, getting 110 seats.The MDC have 41 seats and the NPF (National Patriotic Front), which is sponsored by  Mugabe and his wife Grace, have one. The results of fifty-eight seats are still to be declared.

The opposition MDC Alliance on Tuesday alleged that vote had been rigged and that its candidate Nelson Chamisa had won. Monday's poll saw a high turnout of 70 percent. There are 210 seats in the National Assembly's lower house. It will be interesting to see if the results are the same for the Presidential elections, the result of which is expected soon.
