A two-month-old infant died in the care of a babysitter and she disguised his death by dressing wrapping him in a snowsuit and returned the baby to the mother. The babysitter Marissa Tietsort, 28 from Wisconsin is facing a first-degree murder charge after authorities said that the infant died of blunt force trauma. After returning the baby to the mother, she went swimming at a Wausau hotel with her boyfriend and son, police say, as reported by USA Today. She tried to hide the death by wrapping the baby in a snowsuit and strapped into a car seat wit hat puller over his eyes, according to a criminal complaint about the incident in October. As reported in ABC NEW, the mother told authorities that she believed her son was sleeping and took him to a laundromat. When she touched her son, he was not breathing and was cold to touch. The mother immediately started doing CPR on her son while her sister called 911. The officers observed that the infant had an ashen skin tone, his jaw was clenched, and his lips were blue.
Police later found Tietsort at the Plaza Hotel in Wausau at 4:15 in the morning. She admitted that she was babysitting the infant and his brother and that the infant died while she was watching him. She also knew that the baby was dead, but she did not check for the pulse or made any efforts to resuscitate him or get medical help. When her boyfriend returned, she did not tell him the infant died and went to eat at McDonald’s with him and two children.
An autopsy revealed the infant died of blunt force head injuries with multiple impacts to the head, according to the complaint. According to forensic pathologist Robert Corliss, the baby had at least three separate injuries to his head and his tailbone was also fractured. Tietsort was charged Friday with first-degree intentional homicide in the baby’s death and a cash bond of 500,000 dollars has been issued and that she cannot have any contact with children under 18 or contact with the victim’s immediate family.
