According to weather and forecast experts, the El Niño, a significant large-scale atmosphere climate interaction linked to a periodic warming in sea surface temperatures across the central and east-central Equatorial Pacific, will impact the Winter weather, said the Met Office department. The El Niño is expected to affect winters globally, as warmer or colder than average ocean temperatures in one part of the world can influence weather around the globe, says the National Ocean Service in its report.

This means that the ending months of the year are bound to be warmer than usual with temperatures rising. Watch the video below to understand what is El Nino and what does it mean, courtesy Met Office- Weather

"Our milder-than-normal forecast is due to a decrease in solar activity and the expected arrival of a weak El Niño, which will prevent cold air masses from lingering in the North," the Old Farmer's Almanac says.

El Niño means The Little Boy, or Christ Child in Spanish. El Niño was originally recognized by fishermen off the coast of South America in the 1600s, with the appearance of unusually warm water in the Pacific Ocean. The name was chosen based on the time of year (around December) during which these warm waters events tended to occur.
