Mumbai, June 9: The Israel Police recently confirmed the tragic demise of Chief Inspector Arnon Zamora, a distinguished commander and tactical operator within the Yamam (National Police Counter-Terrorism Unit). The announcement, conveyed via a tweet on X, underscored Zamora's critical role in a successful hostage rescue operation conducted in Gaza earlier that day. The solemn declaration was issued on the evening of Saturday, June 8, marking a poignant moment for the law enforcement community.

Zamora hailed as a hero, was a Yamam officer who led the Gaza raid that freed four hostages from the captivity of Hamas. In honour of his sacrifice, the rescue mission was renamed from "Seeds of Summer" to "Operation Arnon." Who Was Arnon Zamora?

36-year-old Chief Inspector Arnon Zamora was a revered officer within the elite Yamam counter-terrorism unit in Israel. Residing in Sde David, near Sderot, he was survived by his wife, Michal, two children, and his parents, Reuven and Ruthi. Zamora's commitment to safeguarding Israel was evident during the "Seeds of Summer" operation, renamed "Operation Arnon", posthumously. Zamora, hailed as a hero, had sustained critical wounds while leading the raid in Gaza to rescue four Hamas hostages from two separate buildings in the Nuseirat area. Despite attempts to save him,  he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being evacuated to an Israeli hospital on June 8. Arnon Zamora will be laid to rest with full military honours at Jerusalem's Mount Herzl military cemetery, as reported by Times of Israel. Zamora's bravery on October 7 last year at the Battle of Yad Mordechai, where he thwarted Hamas terrorists, underscores his unwavering dedication.
