In simple words, the 4B movement is a promise to swear off men. The 4B movement is centred around four no's, which include saying no to dating men, getting married, having kids and also no to having sex. The 4B movement is also known as "4 Nos." In Korean, all these words start with the prefix "bi" and include bihon (no marriage), bichulsan (no childbirth), biyeonae (no dating), and bisekseu (no sexual relationships with men).
The 4B movement came into existence in South Korea in 2017 but became prominent in 2019 amid a wave of antifeminist movements, which was boosted by the election of conservative President Yoon Suk Yeol. Those who support the 4B movement renounce marriage, dating, sex, and childbearing with men because they believe that patriarchal structures contribute to gender inequality.
