Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended an invitation to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, while meeting with a top North Korean official Kim Yong Nam on Thursday. At the meeting, Putin recommended the meeting can take place during an economic forum in September.

According to a CNN report, Putin has been quoted saying, "I would like to re-extend and ask you to convey to the leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un, our invitation to visit Russia. We can schedule this meeting regardless of international events between our foreign ministries." Putin even added that Russia is ready to "make all necessary efforts to establish ties, including in economic cooperation" with North Korea.

Reportedly, Putin even mentioned Kim's recent meeting with President Donald Trump, calling it a start to peaceful diplomacy. He further added that it had reduced the threat of a major conflict. The Russian President also pointed out that a war of words between the US and North Korea had "worried the entire world and could entail grave consequences".
