Hanoi, September 24: In an extreme act to settle his gambling debt, a man in Vietnam resorted to digging up his late uncle's remains and using them to extort money from his family. The police discovered the bones, returned them to his cousin, and arrested him on September 12. Grave desecration is considered highly disrespectful in Vietnamese tradition, as it is believed to disturb the dead and create problems for the living.

The accused, identified as Luu Thanh Nam, from Thanh Hoa province in northern Vietnam, dug a 20 cm hole in his uncle’s grave on September 9, removing some of his uncle’s bones and discarding them in a nearby pile of rubbish. Delhi Shocker: Indian Couple From Vietnam Arrested at IGI Airport With 45 Guns Worth Rs 22 Lakh.

His uncle had passed away four years earlier. Authorities launched an investigation, which led to the identification of Luu Thanh Nam as the culprit behind the grave desecration and extortion attempt. After the police retrieved the bones, they returned them to Nam’s cousin, Luu Thanh Hoi. Following local customs, Hoi reburied his uncle’s remains to ensure peace and ward off any potential problems associated with the desecration.
