According to a report from ABC News, the sequence of events began on Wednesday, June 26, when Ashlee Stallings left her eight-year-old daughter inside her car, unattended, to go to work. When she returned to check on her daughter after not hearing from her for an hour and a half, she found her unresponsive on the floor of the backseat. Subsequently, Stallings broke the window of the car with a hammer and rushed her daughter to a nearby hospital in a bid to save her. However, the young girl, whose name has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead the following day. As per the report, hospital authorities informed the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department on Wednesday evening, who promptly arrested Stallings on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse by willful act causing serious injury on Thursday, June 27. Medical staff determined the cause of death as brain herniation due to hyperthermia, a tragic consequence of being exposed to extreme heat.
