ABC News reported that the victims, identified as 43-year-old Jorge N. and 35-year-old Lizeth N., were reportedly shocked by an electrical current while in the jacuzzi. Jorge N., believed to be from El Paso, Texas, was declared dead at the scene. Lizeth N. was transported in critical condition to a hospital in the United States. Sara Gaitan-Perez, an Arizona resident staying at the resort, recounted the harrowing event to the Arizona Daily Star. She and other guests attempted to assist the victims but found that Jorge N. had no pulse upon their arrival. "We had just come from the pool, and my husband and son were in that very same hot tub about an hour before," Gaitan-Perez said.
Experts advise that if you feel an electric current in a pool or hot tub, you should exit the water immediately without touching any metal fixtures or ladders to avoid further risk.
