Mumbai, July 26: A teacher in North Carolina, US, was arrested on Wednesday, July 24, for allegedly sexually abusing a student. The teacher faces three felony charges of inappropriate behaviour and three felony charges of sexual acts with a student. Following the arrest, the teacher was suspended from the school without pay.

The accused, 39-year-old Britney Marie Vernon, is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher in the high school's Health Services department. These assault allegations against the teacher were first reported on July 1. Further, no more details about the case were known; the police did not inform whether there were other victims of this alleged sexual abuse or not. Vernon began working in the Randolph County School System on August 20, 2018, and started at Randleman High School on August 21, 2023. She has been arrested and charged with three counts of felony indecent liberties with a student, and three counts of felony sex acts with a student. Vernon is being kept in custody on a $75,000 unsecured bond, with a first court appearance scheduled for August 12. Additionally, she has been suspended from Randleman High School with pay.
