Mumbai, August 24: A mother is accused of abandoning her own child with an elderly abductor. After leaving her five-year-old daughter in the care of an elderly acquaintance, who later reportedly abducted and sexually assaulted the youngster, a 30-year-old woman was detained on Wednesday, according to New York police.

Franz Vila, 75, was first introduced to Kimberly Pijuan, a Queens, New York resident, a few months ago. Vila and Pijuan reconnected on Tuesday while Pijuan was shopping with her kid at a Jackson Heights Foodtown. Vila and Pijuan were not at the playground when Pijuan returned to pick up her kid. Around 1:00 PM, Pijuan called the police to report her daughter missing. As they actively looked for the child, who was last seen wearing a pink flowery dress, the NYPD distributed a picture of her.

Bystanders who had seen the news stories noticed a girl who matched the description close to the Roosevelt Avenue tube stop. They informed the authorities, who located Vila and saved the victim. Investigators were informed by the five-year-old that Vila had sexually molested her.

Vila was seen returning with the girl to his Upper East Side flat at approximately 12:30 p.m. He was taken into custody and accused of kidnapping, sexual assault, wrongful confinement, and endangering children. Pijuan and Vila reportedly met a few months ago, according to law enforcement officials. As of Wednesday night, the two suspects were still in custody. Although the lost child was found, the terrible incident serves as a warning about the risks associated with leaving young children with unfamiliar people.
