Arizona, May 13: In a shocking case from US’s Arizona, a woman named Melody Felicano Johnson has struck a plea deal to avoid jail time after being indicted on charges of attempted first-degree murder. The indictment came after her husband, Roby Johnson, sent a video to the police showing her mixing bleach in his coffee in order to poison him.

New York Post reported that Melody was sentenced last week after pleading guilty in April to two counts of poisoning food or drink. She admitted to adding trace amounts of bleach to her husband’s coffee maker on July 11 and July 18, 2023. As part of the plea deal, Melody has been ordered to spend three years on probation, which includes mandatory mental health treatment. The couple, who share a child together, are currently going through divorce proceedings. Roby Johnson, a member of the US Air Force, first noticed a foul taste in his coffee in March 2023 while the family was stationed in Germany. To investigate further, Roby set up a hidden camera and discovered his wife pouring an unknown substance into the coffee maker. He waited until he returned to Tucson, Arizona to alert authorities, as he did not want to report his findings in Europe.

Upon his return to the US, Roby used multiple hidden cameras over several days and captured footage of Melody pouring bleach into a container and then adding it to the coffee maker. Investigators believe that she was attempting to kill him in order to collect death benefits. Melody was arrested in July 2023.
