Florida, September 4: Doctors in the United States mistakenly removed the wrong organ during a surgery. This resulted in the death of the 70-year-old man.  He was admitted to Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Hospital in Walton County because of an abnormality in the Spleen.  During surgery, the doctor mistakenly removed the man's liver, causing catastrophic blood loss that led to his death. The surgeon misidentified the liver as a spleen until after the incident.

As per the Law Firm, General Surgeon Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky and Dr. Christopher Bacani, the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, urged Bryan's hesitant family to agree to surgery, warning that leaving the hospital could lead to serious complications. The Law Firm also wrote, "From the records, it appears both physicians were involved in the discussion as to the appropriateness of the planned procedure and the capabilities of the facility to accommodate such. Beverly Bryan was told that her husband's "spleen" was severely enlarged, four times its normal size, and had shifted to the other side of his body. Normally, the liver is located on the upper right side of the abdomen, while the smaller spleen sits on the upper left side, near the stomach.

Beverly Bryan is pursuing both civil and criminal actions in response to her husband’s death. After William Bryan passed away, a small cyst was found on his spleen, which is now thought to have been the source of the pain that led to his hospitalization.
