Nebraska, October 16: Nebraska's mortuary industry was rattled last week by the unsettling arrest of Ryan Smith, a 41-year-old former employee at Mid America First Call. Smith faces charges of burglary, criminal trespassing, and tampering with physical evidence after allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a life-sized doll found in the apartment of a deceased individual. According to multiple reports, the incident occurred during a routine collection of a deceased individual by Smith and a colleague from the Rock Creek Apartments, which was being managed by Mid America First Call.

Following the initial visit, Smith purportedly made an unauthorised return, claiming that he needed to retrieve the doll for "biopsy" purposes, a request promptly denied by the property manager. However, subsequent reports from the manager suggested unusual noises from the apartment, leading to the discovery of Smith inside, with messy clothing. Concerned about potential theft, the manager promptly alerted the authorities, leading to an investigation that revealed tampering with various items at the scene. US Shocker: Mother Sues McDonald's After 200-Degree Fahrenheit Nuggets Leave Her 4-Year-Old Daughter With Second-Degree Burns.

The Douglas County Crime Lab was subsequently brought in to collect fingerprints and potentially DNA samples from the doll. Justin Dalton, the owner of Mid America First Call, the company Smith worked for, confirmed his immediate dismissal despite the incident occurring while off-duty. Mid America First Call is a company that provides services related to the handling and care of deceased individuals.  US Shocker: Texas Man Shoots and Kills Girlfriend For Having Abortion, Arrested.

These services typically include tasks such as the removal and transportation of deceased bodies, embalming, cremation, and other funeral-related activities. Funeral homes, hospitals, and other entities often contract with companies like Mid America First Call to assist with these aspects of the funeral and mortuary process.  The unsettling case has raised concerns about the sanctity of the deceased and the responsibilities of those entrusted with their care.
