Oklahoma, September 23:  Authorities in Oklahoma rescued two minor boys and a baby girl under the age of five from a horrific home on September 12, where they were found covered in faeces. The boys, ages 3 and 4, were discovered in a bedroom, prompting police to don hazmat suits due to the appalling conditions. The parents were arrested on child neglect charges.

Oklahoma City police reported that officers arrived at the home after receiving a tip from a concerned neighbour who expressed alarm about the children's living conditions, according to a report by the New York Post. US Shocker: Woman Caught on Camera Poisoning Husband’s Coffee With Bleach, Strikes Plea Deal to Avoid Prison.

Police officials described the scene as “completely disgusting,” stating, “Feces on the walls, faeces on the kids.” Officers who entered the residence reported being nearly overwhelmed by the smell of faeces and urine. According to a police report, the young victims had “faeces caked into their fingernail beds, palms of their hands, feet, legs, and faces.” US Shocker: Man Stabs Mother to Death, Injures Father for Refusing Him Night Stay at Their House in Ohio, Arrested.

The report described the appalling conditions of the home, noting “piles of what appeared to be human feces” on the second floor and a bedroom floor “covered in smeared and flattened feces.” Due to the horrific environment, investigators later wore hazmat suits while examining the crime scene.

Dodd, the boys’ stepfather, allegedly told police he locked the children in a dirty room for over 12 hours each day so their mother, Freeman, could sleep and to keep them safe from the neighbourhood. An 11-month-old baby girl, Dodd's biological daughter, was also removed from the home. The neighbour who reported the neglect, Barbara North, said she saw the boys naked in the window and felt they were asking for help.
