Belmopan, October 28: In a deeply disturbing case, a young woman in Belize was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted by members of her own husband’s family, reportedly following a family dispute. The 23-year-old woman, married to the son of 45-year-old Guatemalan pastor Luis Alfredo Tiul Sr, endured a harrowing ordeal involving physical violence and coercion. Tiul Sr, along with his wife Matilda Games and two other family members, allegedly restrained the woman, inflicting serious harm before she managed to escape.
The case came to light when the victim managed to escape from her husband’s family home in Belmopan and was discovered by local police. According to reports from The Mirror, authorities arrived on the scene just as the woman fled, providing her immediate assistance. She revealed that she had been forcibly detained and subjected to assault by her husband’s family, an ordeal that allegedly included severe physical abuse. Following her escape, she lodged an official report with the police detailing the events that had taken place over the course of her captivity. Four family members have since been arrested in connection with the case. Guatemalan pastor Luis Alfredo Tiul Sr is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping, aggravated assault, wounding, and sexual assault. His wife, 59-year-old Matilda Games, a Guatemalan national, has been charged with administering noxious substances alongside their son Luis Alfredo Tiul Jr, 24, who faces charges of aggravated assault and wounding. Another relative, Elizabeth Tiul, a 43-year-old Mexican housewife, is also charged with kidnapping, wounding, and aggravated assault. The police believe all family members participated in the alleged abuse, as the woman’s injuries and testimony corroborate each other.
