UNGA: 'Want Peace, Won't Damage Relations With Loose Statements', Says Pakistan Foreign Minster Shah Mehmood Qureshi
Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi today refused to comment India’s decision to cancel the proposed meeting between the two nations at the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
New York, September 25: Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi today refused to comment India’s decision to cancel the proposed meeting between the two nations at the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Interacting with media in New York, Mehmood said that he could say a lot but did not want to worsen the situation. Qureshi further added, “We want peace. Only a few words can worsen the situation.”
On September 21, India called off the meeting between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the Pakistani Foreign Minister that was scheduled to take place in New York later this month on the sidelines UNGA. The government had taken the decision due to the brutal killings of Indian security personnel by Pakistan troops. The government also slammed Pakistan for releasing a series of 20 postal stamps glorifying terrorists.
Earlier, India had agreed to hold a meeting foreign ministerial level meeting with Pakistan in response to a letter written by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, expressing the desire to resume dialogue between the two countries. In the letter, Khan said India and Pakistan must resolve all outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir dispute peacefully.
Pakistan Rangers murdered Border Security Force (BSF) Head Constable Narender Kumar on the night of September 18. The mutilated body of Kumar was found hours after Pakistan started an unprovoked firing in Ramgarh sector of Jammu on the patrolling party.
