London, October 12: A 56-year-old woman from the UK, was reportedly deplaned from a Jet2 flight bound for Rome on October 2, 2023, due to concerns about her type 2 diabetes. The woman, Helen Taylor, accompanied by her husband, was initially cleared to board the flight without any issues. However, moments later, cabin crew members expressed concern about her health after she returned from the restroom appearing dizzy and sweaty.
The Independent reported her as saying that "I was desperate for the toilet so I asked one of the cabin crew while people were still boarding whether I could possibly go to the loo. She said, 'Yes no problem'. But when I came out I started to sweat and went a little bit dizzy. The air stewardess saw and asked, 'Are you alright?'' She assured them that she was perfectly fine. “It's just my blood sugar levelling out. All I need is to sit down and have a drink of water and I will be perfectly fine," she told them. She also mentioned that she was going through menopause, which could account for the sweating, and that she would recover in a few minutes. Nevertheless, a flight attendant decided to conduct a medical evaluation and inquired about her medical condition.
Approximately ten minutes later, the stewardess returned with the news that Taylor would have to disembark because she was considered a flight risk.
Bewildered, Taylor asked, "What, for having diabetes? Do I look ill now?" to which the flight attendant responded, "Well, actually you don't."
Following the incident, Taylor attempted to contact Jet2 multiple times to claim a refund for their ã1,800 holiday but initially received no response. However, Jet2 has since apologised and confirmed that they will refund the cost of her holiday.
