London, September 7: A toddler was seriously hurt in a scary dog attack while playing with friends in the UK's Birkenhead. The three-year-old was taken to the hospital with major injuries to his face. He's still in the hospital, getting extensive treatment. The attacker dog was captured by the police, who later euthanised the canine.

According to the Daily Mail, the UK dog attack occurred at around 5.50 pm on Tuesday evening on Merlin Road. The dog, thought to be a Huntaway Cross breed, was taken by Merseyside Police and later put down humanely. A 22-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of being responsible for a dangerous dog that was not under control in a public area. Detective Inspector Phil Ryan said that no one else was hurt in the dog attack, and the young boy is receiving treatment in hospital. Police are still looking into what occurred on Merlin Road and are asking anyone who was in the vicinity during the incident and witnessed the attack to get in touch with police, Detective Ryan informed. He also urged people, if they have or are looking after any dogs that may be prone to aggression, to please ensure they are in a secure area and kept on a leash or wearing a muzzle when in public. In another incident of the dog attack, a woman died after falling prey to two dogs last month. The deceased, Marie Stevens, was bitten on the legs and arms by two rottweilers in Netherton, Merseyside, on 18 August. The woman died on Sunday, September 3, after collapsing at home. A post-mortem identified the primary cause of death as a pulmonary embolism.
