"Our hearts go out to the victim’s family. We’re fully cooperating with @TempePolice and local authorities as they investigate this incident," Uber said in a statement issued on Twitter.
The name of the victim, along with her residential details have not been disclosed to the press as the police are yet to inform her immediate kin about the accident.
The fatal accident involving Uber's autonomous vehicle comes a nearly a year after one of its cars under self-test mode had struck a pedestrian in Tempe, causing minor injuries.
