If shoppers are looking for a bargain and a good deal at the Toys 'R' Us or Babies 'R' Us will no more have an option for looking it up online. Post the rapid liquidation of its U.S. operations, they have shut down its e-commerce websites for Toys R Us and Babies R Us. Both the websites were turned off at 5 p.m. Thursday. The visitors to the sites will be directed to a different webpage, goodbuytoysrus.com.
A message displays on both the brands' websites “We have shut down the website for any purchases, but our brick and mortar stores are open and holding going-out-of-business sales.” The orders made before the websites shut down are yet to be processed. Charles Lazarus- the founder of Toys R Us, the mega toy retailer has passed away at the age of 94 on March 23.
Toys R Us had started the business of selling toys in the year 1957. The firm had announced it will be closing forever following the retail meltdown across North America and Europe. The message on their websites points to doubts about liquidation sales and also about the answers to general questions which people might have about the closing.
The new website also has information about liquidation sales at the retailer's U.S. stores. The firm failed at bankruptcy restructuring. One can also browse through different toys but you cannot add them to the online shopping cart. Gift cards (including e-gift cards) can be used in stores through April 21. It also encouraged expectant mothers to save or write down the products on their registry before those are lost.
The merchant was facing relentless competition from Amazon and Walmart, along with over $5 billion in debt from a 2005 leveraged buyout. This ultimately led to the slowdown and eventual demise of the retail icon.
