Top Nike Executive Trevor Edwards Resigns, Mark Parker to Continue as CEO beyond 2020
As per reports, Edwards, 55 years old, joined Nike in 1992 as a Regional Marketing Manager and has worked his way up the leadership ranks.
Nike has conducted a probe of inappropriate workplace behavior and has also announced the surprise departure of top executive Trevor Edwards, who was considered a potential successor to the firm's CEO. According to a Wall Street Journal report, an internal memo in which CEO Mark Parker has announced Edwards' departure and said the company had recently received reports of "behavior occurring within our organization that do not reflect our core values of inclusivity, respect and empowerment." However, there were "no direct allegations of misconduct" against Trevor Edwards.
Nike said Edwards will be an advisor to Parker, until he retires in August. As per reports, Edwards, 55 years old, joined Nike in 1992 as a Regional Marketing Manager and has worked his way up the leadership ranks. Since 2013, he has been the President of Nike brand and was considered as the apparent heir to CEO Parker. His previous stint was with Colgate Palmolive.
Nike in a recent statement has announced that Mark Parker will continue as the Chairman, President and CEO beyond 2020. The release quotes, Mark Parker who said, “I’d like to thank Trevor for the important role he has played for 25 years and for his significant contributions. He has helped us grow and strengthen our brand on a global scale. I am committed to stay in my role as Chairman, President and CEO beyond 2020. Trevor has decided to retire. We are fortunate to have a strong management team in place who is well suited to drive our next stage of growth and to steward and evolve our culture in the future.”
