Narathiwat, November 11: In a shocking incident, a woman who has been living with excruciating pain for the past 18 years discovered that a medical needle was mistakenly left in her vagina during childbirth. The now 36-year-old woman from Narathiwat has suffered severe lower abdominal pain ever since the incident occurred at a hospital during her delivery. Medical staff accidentally dropped a needle while suturing her after the birth but, due to concerns over excessive bleeding, chose to close the wound without retrieving it. Over the years, she endured intermittent pain, unaware of the needle lodged inside her until a recent X-ray revealed the horrifying mistake.
According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the woman first became aware of the issue last year when an X-ray at a government hospital showed that a needle was still lodged in her vagina, unbeknownst to her. Until then, she had experienced occasional, severe abdominal pain but had never understood the cause. The woman, whose name has not been disclosed, had not suspected any error during her delivery and had only been seeking medical help for her ongoing discomfort. The needle, left inside her body for 18 years, had shifted within her, making removal increasingly complicated. On November 5, the woman reached out to the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women, a Thai non-profit organisation, for assistance. She shared her distressing story in a post, revealing how her life had been impacted by the mistake. The foundation, which helps victims of abuse and other social issues, immediately took action to provide support. The woman explained how she had been forced to visit the hospital regularly for follow-ups and how the shifting needle had delayed any attempts at surgery. South China Morning Post reported that despite several attempts to schedule surgery, the procedure has been delayed multiple times as the needle continues to shift within her body. The woman’s family has also faced financial strain from the ongoing medical visits, and the Pavena Foundation has stepped in to provide assistance, including helping with transportation costs.
