Islamabad, October 31: At least 46 people were charred to death after a fire broke out at the Tezgam Express in Pakistan's east Punjab province on Thursday, according to local media reports. The Tezgam Express, which connects Karachi to Rawalpindi, caught fire near Rahim Yar Khan in Liaquatpur town. Pakistan Train Collision Kills 11, Injures 66 in Sadiqabad.
According to a Pakistan Railways official, the fire erupted at the passenger train when a gas cylinder being carried by a passenger exploded. The passengers were cooking breakfast when the blast occurred, news agency IANS reported.
At least three coaches of the Tezgam Express were engulfed in the raging fire. The injured were being shifted to nearby hospitals. Rescue operations were underway.
