Sushma Swaraj Meets Wang Yi on The Sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today held delegation level talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
Beijing, April 22: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today held delegation level talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. Both the leaders had a discussion on bilateral issues and the ways to improve relations.
Swaraj arrived in Beijing yesterday for a four-day visit to attend foreign ministers’ meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The Chinese foreign minister received Swaraj at the Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing ahead of their bilateral meeting.
Swaraj congratulated Wang on his elevation as the state councilor. According to The Economic Times, she said, “This shows how much trust your leadership has in your abilities.....and I think your new responsibilities will improve India-China relations.” Swaraj also said that the India would work closely with Chinese leadership to take Indo-China cooperation to new heights.
China also appreciated India’s efforts in reducing tension between both the nations. Wang said, “India's membership to the SCO has expanded the orgainsation's potential and its influence, as well as providing a new platform for the India-China cooperation and I believe that India will make a positive and energetic contribution to the organization,” reported The Economic Times. After the Doklam standoff both the nations are focusing on increasing dialogues to improve the relations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit China next month for bilateral summit. The Prime Minister will also visit China in June for the Shanghai (SCO) summit in Qingdao. On April 13, National security adviser AK Doval also met one of China’s top diplomats Yang Jiechi in Shanghai. According to media reports. India also cleared that there will be no bilateral level meeting with Pakistan on the sidelines of SCO.
