A super typhoon in the western Pacific Ocean is moving towards China, Japan and Korean Peninsula. Japan and China have been put on alert as Super Typhoon Maria strengthened over the past one day. Maria has so far impacted Guam and the Mariana Islands. On Thursday evening, Maria grew into a typhoon and then a super typhoon on Friday morning.

Maria is the second super typhoon of the northwest Pacific this tropical cyclone season after Jelawat that hit in March. While Maria became a Category 5 typhoon on Friday, reports say that it is expected to weaken before hitting Japan's Ryukyu Islands and then Okinawa early next week.

According to AccuWeather, "Over the weekend, anyone in the potential path of Maria will want to make preparations as the storm threatens areas from eastern China to Japan next week." On its course, Maria will be over open waters, making the sea rough in the Western Pacific Ocean.
