Palma, April 26: A 21-year-old woman employed by an airline company found herself in a life-threatening situation after purchasing coffee from a vending machine at Son Sant Joan airport near Palma. What started as a routine purchase turned into a nightmare as she discovered insects in her coffee. The victim, who works for an airline company, purchased the drink on April 22 and began experiencing symptoms of anaphylactic shock shortly after, leading to her hospitalisation.
According to a report by the Mirror, as the woman took a sip of the coffee, she noticed an unusual taste. Upon inspection, she was horrified to find a swarm of insects floating in her cup. The presence of bugs in the beverage led her to suffer from anaphylactic shock, causing her face to swell, her throat to close, and leaving her struggling to breathe. She also developed various swellings on her skin. Anaphylactic shock is a severe allergic reaction that can be fatal if not treated promptly. The woman's distress prompted immediate action from airport health services. They administered adrenaline and other medications before rushing her to a clinic in Palma. Despite the swift response, she spent 36 hours in intensive care, battling the effects of the shock before being discharged on April 24. As per a Metro report, following the incident, the victim's family has filed a complaint against the airport to the National Police, alleging negligence in maintaining the vending machine, which they consider a possible crime against public health and reckless injury. In their complaint, the victim's family asserts that the poorly maintained machine contaminated the coffee with insects. In response to the incident, airport management has launched an investigation, and the vending machine in question has been taken out of service. The company responsible for maintaining the vending machines has been instructed to inspect all machines for any similar issues.
