Madrid, October 10: Two British male tourists were detained in Mallorca, an island in Spain, for allegedly raping a man, also British, at a hotel in the region. All three males were alleged to be on vacation at the time. The two suspected rapists, both 36 years old, were apprehended in their own hotel room and later appeared in court on Saturday afternoon. According to the local media, both were charged and released.

The incident reportedly occurred in a hotel complex in Calas de Mallorca, a vacation town on Mallorca's southeast coast, some 70 kilometres from the capital, Palma. Following this, the guy was allegedly raped and was brought to the hospital. According to reports, the claimed victim recorded a conversation on his phone and gave it to authorities after the National authorities were brought in, and an inquiry was initiated. The two accused men were detained only hours later.

The hearing was held behind closed doors, as is customary in Spain, where only trials are held in public. National Police officers in Manacor arrested two British men last Friday as the alleged perpetrators of a crime of sexual assault in a hotel in Majorca, a national police spokesperson said. According to the police, the man "made it clear" to police that he was only searching for company rather than sex, but the scenario changed quickly after the men entered the hotel room.
