Singapore, September 13: In a recent court case in Singapore, a 23-year-old Republic of Singapore Navy Regular, Don Weng Kai Jun, pleaded guilty to distributing pornographic material and making an insulting communication on a popular messaging app, Telegram. The case revolved around an incident where Weng shared explicit content featuring a woman he had met once through a dating app, subjecting her to harassment from strangers.

The victim, a 21-year-old business developer who cannot be named due to a court order protecting her identity, initially connected with Weng through the Bumble dating application. While their contact later ceased, there were no disputes or disagreements between them. According to multiple reports, Weng was a member of a Telegram channel called "Local SG Leaks," with around 25,000 members who shared sexually explicit content. Weng's motivation for this disturbing act was described as a "fear of missing out" within the Telegram group. Air China Flight Makes Emergency Landing on Singapore Airport Runway After Plane’s Engine Catches Fire, Video Shows Cabin Filled With Smoke and Terrified Passengers.

He stumbled upon a pornographic video featuring an unidentified woman with a similar manicure to the victim. Although the victim's face was visible in her Instagram photos, the video showed only the back of the woman. In a calculated move, Weng accessed the victim's Instagram account and saved five of her photos, three of which prominently displayed her face. He then posted these photos along with the explicit video to the Telegram channel, misleading members into believing the victim was the woman in the video. This act had severe consequences, as other members of the channel identified the victim and disclosed her Telegram contact information. Police Robots: Singapore Police Force To 'Progressively Deploy' More Robo Cops Due to Low Manpower.

One of the victim's friends, who was also part of the channel, alerted her to the situation, sharing a screen recording of the message and the sender's Telegram username, which belonged to Weng. The victim reached out to Weng to ask why he had posted her photos on the channel, but he did not respond. Subsequently, Weng deleted the video, photos, and his Telegram account. As a result of Weng's actions, the victim received disturbing messages from four to five strangers on Telegram, inquiring whether she was the person in the video and how much it would cost for sexual services.

Feeling harassed, she filed a police report and made a public post on Instagram to clarify her innocence. Weng's defence characterised his actions as a "moment of misguided playfulness," emphasising that there was no evidence of commercial profiteering. However, the court challenged this characterisation, pointing out that the explicit content remained on Telegram for a week and highlighting Weng's premeditated actions in obtaining the victim's photos. Don Weng Kai Jun is now awaiting sentencing, with a potential penalty of up to three months in jail or a fine for distributing pornographic material and a fine for making an insulting communication.
