Mumbai, June 5: In a shocking incident, a four-year-old boy lost his life in Singapore after his father forced a chilling into his mouth to discipline him during toilet training. The incident, which occurred years ago in August 2022, saw the parents rushing the boy to a nearby clinic for treatment after he lost consciousness. The 38-year-old man has now been sentenced to eight months imprisonment in jail by a Singaporean court.
According to a report by Channel NewsAsia, the distressing episode unfolded in August 2022, when the father, noticing a foul smell, questioned the child about relieving himself. Upon denial from the child, the father resorted to disciplinary action by attempting to make him eat a chilli. Despite the boy's refusal and attempts to escape, the father sat on top of him and forcibly inserted the chilli into the child's mouth. Soon after, the boy starts running around the room while gesturing at his throat and subsequently collapses. Efforts to revive the child proved futile as his condition deteriorated rapidly. Despite his mother's attempts to resuscitate him and subsequent emergency medical intervention, the child succumbed to acute airway obstruction caused by the foreign object, as revealed by the autopsy report. As reported by The Straits Times, the time of the chilling, measuring 10mm by 15mm by 8mm, was lodged in the boy's airway, causing obstruction. While the father pleaded guilty to causing his son's death by performing a rash act, the prosecution sought a jail term of nine to twelve months, with the defence pleading for a shorter sentence of seven months, citing the man's role as a loving father and his psychological struggles post-incident. Despite pleas for leniency, citing the father's remorse and family-oriented nature, the judge, in his sentencing, underscored the preventable nature of the tragedy and urged adherence to non-violent disciplinary practices.
