Mumbai, September 25: In a bizarre incident that took place in the US, the local police arrested a 10-year-old boy and his 11-year-old sister for allegedly taking their mother's car for a joyride in Florida. Police officials said that the brother-sister duo took their mother's car for a joyride in the middle of the night after she reportedly took away their electronic devices.
According to a report in KBTX, the incident came to light when the police stopped the siblings on a highway around 3.50 am on Thursday, September 21. The reports also stated that cops were surprised to see the 10-year-old boy driving the car while his sister sat in the passenger's seat. The car was reported stolen out of North Port. Speaking about the incident, the Alachua County Sheriff's Office said that the brother-sister duo were upset as their mother had taken away their gadgets. The cops suspect that the mother took the gadgets as the children "were not using them appropriately". In a Facebook post, cops said that the siblings were spotted during a "high-risk traffic stop" as the car was reported stolen.
The post also said the siblings were reported missing to the North Port Police Department. After the children were caught, cops called their mother, who said she did not want to pursue charges. Later, the woman drove three hours north to Alachua County to take custody of her children. The authorities also shared two photos of the children, which showed them exiting the vehicle with their hands raised. However, the department had covered their faces to conceal their identities. Notably, the brother-sister duo had reportedly travelled about 200 miles (320 kilometres) from home.
