Lahore, Mar 11: A former seminary student attacked former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif with a shoe during a public event here on Sunday. The miscreant, later identified as Talha Munawar, was apprehended by the authorities and handed over to the local police.

The show was hurled at Sharif shortly before he began his speech at the Jamia Naeemia seminary in Garhi Shahu region of Lahore. The shoe hit Sharif on his chest. He, however, sustained no injuries and continued the speech after the situation was brought under control.

Watch the video of the shoe-hurling incident:

Munawar climbed on the stage after attacking Sharif and raised religious slogans.

After being handed over to the police, he taken to the nearby Service Hospital due to the injuries sustained after being beaten up by the security personnel at the venue.

The motive of the attacker, miscreants said, was to mark his dissent against the ruling PML-N government for altering the oath for elected lawmakers last year, which allegedly challenged the Finality of Prophethood. The amendments were rolled back by the Shahid Khaqan Abbasi government following massive agitations in Islamabad in October.

The shoe hurling at Sharif comes a day after ink was thrown at Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif during a press conference.
