Shaheed Udham Singh 79th Death Anniversary: Pakistan to Pay Tribute to Martyr For First Time
On the occasion of the 79th death anniversary of Shaheed Udham Singh, Pakistan has decided to pay their tribute to the great freedom fighter. This will happen for the first time that the anniversary celebration of the martyr will take place in Lahore. The event will be attended by senior advocates of both Pakistan Supreme Court and High Court.
Lahore, July 31: On the 79th death anniversary of Shaheed Udham Singh, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation in Pakistan has decided to pay their tribute to the great freedom fighter. This will happen for the first time that the anniversary celebration of the martyr will take place in Lahore. According to a Tribune India report, candles would be lit in the memory of the great martyr. Several senior advocates of Pakistan Supreme Court and High Court is expected to preside over the gathering.
Shaheed Udham Singh was the one who killed former Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab Michael O’Dwyer on March 13, 1940. Singh assassinated O’Dwyer to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Shaheed Udham Singh was born as Sher Singh on December 26, 1899, at Sunam in the Sangrur district of Punjab.
While in jail, Singh went on a 42-day hunger strike. His trial commenced at the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey. Udham Singh was hanged on July 31 in 1940.
