‘Screaming And Foaming at Mouth’: Malaysian Teen Electrocuted to Death While Charging Phone on Bus in Penang

An 18-year-old Malaysian, Mohamad Nur Asymawi Jasmadi, was electrocuted on a bus in Penang while charging his phone. Witnesses reported him screaming and foaming at the mouth before he died. Investigators found burn marks on his fingers and a melted charging cable, confirming electrocution as the cause of death.

Penang, November 3: An 18-year-old Malaysian, Mohamad Nur Asymawi Jasmadi, tragically died from electrocution on Friday while charging his phone on an express bus in Penang. The incident occurred shortly after he boarded the bus at Penang Sentral, bound for Kuala Lumpur, around 6 pm.

According to Penang police chief Anuar Abdul Rahman, a fellow passenger heard Jasmadi scream and saw him foaming at the mouth just 10 minutes into the journey. The bus driver immediately called emergency services, and an ambulance arrived at the scene around 6:20 pm. An initial investigation by authorities revealed burn marks on Jasmadi’s left fingers, which they believe resulted from an electric shock caused while he was charging his phone. Police noted that the end of the charging cable had melted, and the phone was overheating. The New Straits Times highlighted police concerns regarding phone-charging safety, especially in public spaces with possibly faulty or overloaded outlets. “We advise the public to use caution while charging electronic devices on public transportation,” said Rahman.

This tragic accident has prompted further investigation into the electrical safety standards on public transportation in the country.
