Milenino, August 2: A 32-year-old woman who abandoned her newborn baby on Ant Hill to die has been arrested. The woman, identified as Nadezhda Sorokina, a single mother of three from Fatezh, Kursk Oblast, reportedly left the day-old girl in Milenino on July 22, claiming financial inability to support a fourth child. The baby, covered in painful ant bites and severe sunburn, was discovered by Nikolai Pakhomov, who initially mistook her cries for those of kittens. Pakhomov quickly alerted emergency services, wrapping the infant in his T-shirt and rushing her to safety.

As reported by the Mirror, the distressing case came to light when Nikolai Pakhomov, out on a walk in Milenino, a small village in Russia, heard the voice of what he thought were kittens only to discover a baby crying in distress. Realising the gravity of the situation. He immediately contacted emergency services, wrapped the infant in his T-shirt, and transported her to an ambulance. After the medics took the baby to a nearby hospital, the local priest named her Maria Nikolaevna in honour of her rescuer. She was promptly placed in the care of local child services, and a married couple has already expressed interest in adopting her, as reported by the Mirror. As the investigation continued, local authorities arrested the baby's mother, 32-year-old Nadezhda Sorokina and charged her with attempted murder. Sorokina confessed to abandoning her daughter after giving birth on July 22, citing financial difficulties as the primary reason. She claimed she could not afford to support another child, leading to the tragic decision to leave the baby on the ant hill.
