Mumbai, August 28: Wade Wilson, a 30-year-old man who shares his name with the Marvel anti-hero Deadpool who is named Wade Wilson in the Deadpool movie series, was sentenced to death on August 27 by a US court for brutally murdering two women in Florida in October 2019. Wilson, a resident of Fort Myers in Florida, was found guilty of murdering Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, all "for the sake of murdering", as established in his trial.

The tattooed maniac, allegedly with tattoos of the Nazi-inspired Swastika, strangled both Melton and Ruiz to death, as well as assaulted his then-girlfriend, Melissa Montanez 41. Apart from these brutal crimes, Wilson was found guilty of grand theft, burglary, battery and petit theft by the court.

Wade Wilson’s Crimes

As per the prosecutors during Wade Wilson's trial, he first strangled Melton to death in her home after they had a drug-fuelled sexual encounter. After this, he stole her car and used her cell-phone to call his girlfriend Montanez to meet him. After Montanez left following the assault, Wilson then found Ruiz seeking directions around Cape Coral in Florida. He offered her a lift, strangled her and threw her out of the car. He did not stop at this. Wilson ran his car over Ruiz until she "looked like spaghetti", as per his trial testimony.

Court’s Verdict in Wade Wilson's Case

Although Wade Wilson's defence attorney argued his side claiming Wilson suffered brain damage from his drug addiction and had severe abandonment issues from being given up for adoption by his biological parents, the court dismissed the plea swiftly. Assistant State Attorney Andreas Gardiner, as reported by the NY Post, told the court, "This case was about killing for the sake of the killing. Strangulation is the epitome of life slipping through someone’s hands." Who Is 'Vampire' Serial Killer Collins Jumaisi Khalusha? Taking into account the two murders, the assault on Montanez and theft, the jury recommended a death sentence for Wilson. Circuit Judge Nicholas Thompson told the courtroom, as per the NY Post report, that the slaughters were so gruesome that he finds "no basis" to overrule but go ahead with the jury's recommendation of death sentence for Wilson. "The evidence shows the murders were heinous, atrocious and cruel, and that the second murder was cold, calculated and premeditated," he told the courtroom.

Wilson's adoptive parents further plead his case in vain, seeking respite against the death penalty by stating, "the human is still in there... Please see it in your heart not take our son."

As per a report in Hindustan Times, Melton's cousin Samantha Kelly maintained that the five years between the crimes and the verdict felt agonising to the victims' family. Ruiz's father, Felix Ruiz, said he would want to be present at Wilson's execution.

Despite his distressful crimes, Wilson developed a fan base in public, who apparently sent him love letters and X-rated photos during his five-year jail term. These fans asked the judge to look past Wilson's tattooed face and his Nazi-legacy Swastika etchings since he was not his real self when not on medication.
