San Juan, July 8: A one-year-old girl fall to death from 11th deck of the Royal Caribbean Cruise ship docked in San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico, on Sunday. The toddler wa playing with her grandfather when the unfortunate accident took place. The bereaved family was left in shock following the incident.

The deceased belonged to an American family which was vacationing in Puerto Rico. The girl's father has been identified as Alan Wiegand, an officer in the police department of Indiana. Alaska Plane Crash: Two Floatplanes Collide Mid-Air; 5 Dead, 1 Missing

The accident took place on the "Freedom of Seas" ship, said Port Authority spokesman José Carmona. A preliminary probe has revealed that the girl's grandfather had kept her on the window pane and subsequently lost balance.

The girl ended up falling from the 11th deck and "died due to the impact", Carmona said, expressing deep sorrow over the incident.

The ship was scheduled to depart for a weekend voyage at 8:30 pm on the unfateful evening. The accident took place at around 5 pm.

The Royal Caribbean Cruises has issued a statement on the tragic incident. "We are deeply saddened by yesterday's tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the family," it said, further adding, "We've made our Care Team available to assist the family with any resources they need. Out of respect for their privacy, we do not plan to comment further on the incident."
