Srinagar, June 5: With the entire Muslim community across the globe celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, protests have broken out in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir on Wednesday, where people have gathered against Pakistan government over the construction of Neelum-Jhelum hydroelectric power project.

According to reports, broadcast on CNNnews 18, people from rights groups, residents and political affiliations in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir gathered against the ruling dispensation over allegations that they have been deprived of basic need, including water. Debt-Ridden Pakistan Revives Economic Team To Get Financial Support From IMF, Sacks Former Chief of Nation's State Bank.

Though the protests are going on for years in the ecologically fragile and sensitive Neelum-Jhelum valley, they have gone to the deaf ears till now. The construction of this Neelum-Jhelum hydroelectric power project will not only lead to large scale diversion of residents, but also lead to the scarcity of water in the already dry agricultural area of PoK.

Considering the case of Pakistan, which is already struggling with electricity deficiency from decades and trying to gain international attention for investment, little is what the current Prime Minister Imran Khan-led government can care about. The pressure for international funding agencies like the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and Asain Development Bank have created a situation for Pakistan, which is now going out of control for the debt-ridden country. Pakistan Military to Voluntarily Cut Defence Budget Amid Financial Crisis

However, on the World Environment Day and Eid, the aspect of politics involved in the protest against the ruling dispensation in Pakistan is a worrying scenario for Khan government. Recently the government made changes in apex bank governing body, which looks like Pakistan government is trying too hard to get relieved from the international financial burden which it had taken from international funding agencies for decades.
