Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Admitted to Hospital For Hip Surgery
The Royal Family veteran had announced his retirement from all public duties as the Duke of Edinburgh in May, 2017 owing to his age.
London, Apr 3: Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has been hospitalised for a pre-scheduled surgery of his hip, the Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Tuesday.
Prince Philip was admitted at King Edward VII Hospital in central London earlier in the day. The hip surgery is planned to be conducted tomorrow.
The 96-year-old had skipped a couple of public events recently due to the hip problem. The Duke was also absent at last Thursday's Royal Maundy Service at Windsor Castle.

His last solo appearance was seen in August 2017, when he reviewed the Royal Marines outside Buckingham Palace. However, he was seen on various occasions alongside the Queen.
About Prince Philip
Born in Greece in 1921, Philip was a child of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, a Greek-Danish royal family.
After the second world war, he got married to Elizabeth II in 1947 and abandoned his Greek and Danish royal titles. He became a naturalised British citizen and adopted the surname Mountbatten.
When his spouse Elizabeth was elevated as the monarch in 1952, Philip left the military service and was appointed as the Duke of Edinburgh -- a charge which he he continued to assume till May 2017.
