Beijing, April 22: Prime Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping will have an informal summit on April 27-28 in Wuhan, China, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said today during the joint address,  after the bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Beijing. The Chinese Foreign Minister added, “We will make sure that the informal summit (between PM Modi and President Jinping on April 27-28) will be a complete success and a milestone in China-India relations.”

Swaraj and Wang held discussions to improve Indo-China relations on the sidelines of the SCO. In the joint address wang hinted at taking India and China ties to a new level, Wang said, “We see socialism with Chinese characteristics entering a new era and India acts as a crucial stage in its development & revitalisation. It is against this backdrop that President Xi and Prime Minister Modi have decided to hold the informal summit.”

During the meeting China agreed to share data on Sutlej and Brahmaputra rivers in 2018. Both the leaders also discussed Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Swaraj confirmed in a joint press conference that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra would resume this year through Nathu La pass. The External Affairs Minister also said, “India-China agreed to work together on issues like terrorism, climate change, sustainable development, global healthcare etc.” Chinese foreign minister congratulated Indi on becoming a member of the SCO and lo welcomed Sushma Swaraj who is representing India for the first time in the summit.

Both the leaders exchanged views on bilateral and international matters with the main objective to enhance mutual communication. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also visit China in June for attending the SCO summit in Qingdao.
