Geneva, September 21: Political activists from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) held a protest today in front of the United Nations Human Rights Council against human rights violations and exploitation of water resources by Pakistan. The protestors also demanded Pakistan to dismantle terror infrastructure in PoK.
Similar protests took place on September 11 against exploitation of natural resources by Islamabad. In Muzaffarabad, the residents hit the streets to demand Pakistan to stop diverting the waters of the Neelum River to Punjab province. Pakistan is depriving the people of Muzaffarabad of their water lifeline -Neelum River - through an elaborate scheme, which has changed the flow of the freshwater from the mountains to Punjab province and in the process drying up the River even in the middle of the monsoon season.
On August 28, Dozens of people were severely injured in Kotli town of PoK after police baton-charged demonstrators who were carrying out a peaceful rally. The demonstrators were demanding their due share of rights, which they have been deprived of under Islamabad's more than seven-decade misrule in the region. Police also lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the huge number of protesters
