Pilot, Who Survived Being Stranded in Amazon Forest for 13 Days After His Plane Crashed, Dies in Second Plane Crash in Brazil

According to reports, Munhoz da Silva, a native of Paran, was discovered dead on Friday, September 1. His cousin, Alexandre Munhoz, told local media that his body remained submerged in water body for five days, and the deceased's mother is "suffering a lot".

Mumbai, September 2023: A pilot who made headlines last year after his airplane crashed and left him trapped for 13 days in the Amazon rainforest, has passed away in a second plane crash incident. When his plane crashed in Mucaja, Roraima, Brazil, 38-year-old Otavio Augusto Munhoz da Silva, passed away last week.

The incident took place on August 28th, just 214 kilometres from the city, Boa Vista, and close to the Venezuelan border. According to reports, Munhoz da Silva, a native of Paran, was discovered dead on Friday, September 1. His cousin, Alexandre Munhoz, told local media that his body remained submerged in water body for five days, and the deceased's mother is "suffering a lot".

The family claims that Munhoz da Silva was a private pilot who operated air taxis in the Boa Vista area. After the collision the previous year, Munhoz da Silva was lost for 13 days and had to make his way through a thick jungle before being discovered.

He returned to the air after getting well and continued working there till he passed away. The incident is the subject of a Civil Police investigation. Munhoz da Silva will be buried in Londrina, the city where he was born. The terrible incident occurred on September 3 at the Truro Aerodrome in Cornwall, with police learning of the collision at approximately 3.20 p.m. The incident is being looked into by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB). Emergency services, including teams from the Devon and Cornwall Police and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, rushed to the site.
