Islamabad, December 24: Pakistan is planning to purchase GPS-guided mortar from the international weapons market. Defence experts believe that with these mortars Pakistan will be aiming to target Indian posts across the Line of Control (LoC) with exact precision. Only a few countries have these mortars in their arsenal. Apart from European countries, China also possesses this technology, but it has not disclosed the features of these mortars.
The directions and targets of these mortars can be altered even after they are fired, which makes them a deadly weapon. During a war against the Taliban, the United States used GPS-enabled mortar to target Taliban in Afghanistan with great success.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Pakistan violated ceasefire in Keri and Pukherni sectors of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. Due to ceasefire violation, schools have closed in the area. On December 21, two Indian army jawans lost their lives in an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops across the LoC in Keran sector of Kupwara district. The martyred soldiers were junior commissioned officers (JCO) in the army. The JCO’s were identified as Subedar Gamar Thapa and Subedar Raman Thapa.
