Pakistan Partially Reopens Airspace as Tensions Eased With India, Full Air Operations Only After March 4

Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Friday issued a fresh notice to airmen (NOTAM) to reopen airspace with restrictions. The decision was taken as tensions eased after Islamabad announced the release of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

Islamabad, March 1: Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Friday issued a fresh notice to airmen (NOTAM) to reopen airspace with restrictions. The decision was taken as tensions eased after Islamabad announced the release of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. However, the full operations will not be resumed till March 4. According to a fresh circular, flight operations only to/from Karachi international, Peshawar international, Quetta international and Islamabad international airports with restricted entry/exit as follows will be available. The notice to partially open airspace was issued three days after Pakistan had shut down its entire airspace due to increasing tensions with India. In the wake of increasing tension, India too had at least eight airports after Indian Air Force (IAF) Wg Cd. Varthaman was taken into custody by Pakistan Army. Meanwhile, the IAF officer will reach India today in the evening after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced yesterday to release him. The IAF pilot's Mig-21 Bison crashed in Pakistan Occupies territory while engaging Pakistan fighter jets which attempted to violate Indian airspace on February 27. He shot down Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jet with his Mig-21 Bison before being hit.
