Pakistan Military Owned Media House Advertises for 'Honey Trap' Job, Posts Opening for Female Social Media Specialist Position on Fatima Jinnah Women University Website

Pakistan military-owned media house posted an advertisement on women’s university website asking for applications from female candidates, who are proficient in social media. The notice sought applications from interested female candidates who can “attract and interact with targeted virtual communitiies".

Islamabad, August 4: Pakistan military-owned media house posted an advertisement on women’s university website asking for applications from female candidates, who are proficient in social media. The advertised was placed through the website of Pakistan’s Fatima Jinnah Women University. In the notice, it is mentioned that the candidate should be fluent in English and should have excellent skills in photo, video and text editing.

As one of the job requirements, an applicant must know social media analytics tools apart from having graduate or postgraduate degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, New Media or Public Relations. The advertisement raised concerns that the Pakistan Army might be planning to honey trap Indian armed forces personnel to extract confidential information. In April this year, Facebook had also removed 103 pages, groups and accounts on both its platform and social networking website – Instagram, for engaging in coordinated inauthentic behaviour against India as part of a military-backed network that originated in Pakistan.

The Fatima Jinnah Women University is situated in Rawalpindi in Punjab. It was inaugurated by the then Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1998. The university is also regarded as the first women’s university of Pakistan.
