Mumbai, September 14: A Swedish court sentenced a 57-year-old Norwegian man to 3.5 years in prison on Monday for his involvement in fraud and falsifying records, as reported by Fox News. His elaborate scheme involved storing his deceased wife's body in a freezer for nearly five years, all in an attempt to fraudulently collect her pension.

According to the reports, the man supposedly told his friends and family that his 60-year-old wife was still alive even after she died from cancer in 2018. As per an English-language Norwegian news site, the woman's family got worried when they couldn't get in touch with her. However, the man repeatedly claimed she was either asleep or couldn't talk to them. In March, the police found her body after receiving a tip. The man confessed to concealing her death and her remains. He told investigators that he placed his wife in a freezer upon discovering her dead in their residence. As per some reports from local media, the man kept his wife's body in the same freezer where he stored food. During this time, he continued to claim her pension and tax rebates, totalling over 1.2 million Norwegian kroner ($116,000). The court has found the man guilty of several charges, including severe violations of civil rights, significant fraud, desecration of a corpse, and forgery of documents, among others. The court has sentenced the man to 3.5 years in prison.
