Seoul, April 29: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, in another act of reconciliation and cooperation with the South, has said that he would fast-track the clocks of his country by 30 minutes to unify his country time's with that of South Korea. This announcement by Kim Jong Un came after the April 27 historic inter-Korean Summit, Seoul said today.
The North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said that he would change his country's official timing by moving the country's clocks 30 minutes forward. The two sparring countries on the divided peninsula have had different time zones after 2015 when the Kim Jong Un ruled North Korea had suddenly changed its standard time to 30 minutes behind the South.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un made history on Friday, April 27th when he walked south across the demarcation line and met South Korean President Moon Jae-in. Kim is in South Korea to hold a historic inter-Korean Summit in Panmunjom, the truce village on the north-south border of the peninsula.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in greeted Kim Jong Un, a top leader of North Korea on Friday and became the first North Korean leader to set foot in South Korea by crossing the military line that has divided the peninsula since the end of the Korean War in 1953.
The venue of this summit was at the Peace House building on the southern side of the truce village of Panmunjom. Kim said, "I came here determined to send a starting signal at the threshold of a new history," he said, promising a "frank, serious and honest mindset". North Korean is high on their nuclear arsenal and that was a part of the meeting's agenda too. South President Moon hoped that it will be a bold agreement for the benefit of all the Koreans who are seeking peace.
Last year there were a series of missile launches, its sixth nuclear test but this discussion promised there would be no more of those. “There will be no more war on the Korean peninsula and thus a new era of peace has begun,” said a joint statement signed following the talks. Kim Jong-un said the Koreas are “linked by blood as a family and compatriots who cannot live separately.”
