New Delhi, October 8: The Nobel Prize is a prestigious honour awarded annually for outstanding contribution in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, economics, and the promotion of peace. A large number of Nobel prizes have gone to Western countries throughout the award's history. The top five countries with the most Nobel laureates are the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Sweden. The country which has the most Nobel laurates is the United States with 379 winners overall. Moreover, America tops the rankings for all prizes except Literature. The United Kingdom ranks second with 132 Nobel laureates. Germany has had 108 Nobel laureates, followed by Franch which has 70 winners. Sweden ranks fifth with 31 winners overall. Countries With Nobel Prize Winners: USA - 379, UK - 132, Germany - 108, France - 70, Sweden - 31, Japan - 28, Canada - 26, Russia - 26, Switzerland - 26, Austria - 21, Netherlands  21, Italy - 20, Poland - 14, Hungary - 13, Norway - 13, Denmark - 13, Australia - 12, Belgium - 11, Ireland - 11, S Africa - 10, India - 10.

India ranks 21 with just 10 Nobel winners. China and Pakistan are nowhere in top 25. The most recent award came to India in 2014 when Kailash Satyarthi won Nobel for Peace. Pakistan has two Nobel laureates. There are over 30 countries which have had one Nobel Prize winner, most of them are developing nations such as Algeria, Bangladesh, Brazil and Kenya.
