Nobel Peace Prize 2019 Winner: Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali Awarded the Prize for His Efforts on Peace and International Cooperation
Ahead of the announcement, there were a number of speculation about possible winners but no hints from the Nobel committee as it doesn’t reveal the names of candidates or nominations for 50 years.
Stockholm, October 11: The Nobel Peace Prize 2019 has been awarded to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation, and in particular for his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea. The Norwegian Nobel Committee decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2019 to the Ethiopian Prime Minister for promoting peace and reconciliation. The Committee hopes that the Nobel Peace Prize will strengthen Prime Minister Abiy in his important work for peace and reconciliation.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali is awarded the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize for his important work to promote reconciliation, solidarity and social justice. The prize is also meant to recognise all the stakeholders working for peace and reconciliation in Ethiopia and in the East and Northeast African regions.
According to the Nobel Prize official website, Abiy Ahmed Ali has initiated important reforms that give many citizens hope for a better life and a brighter future. The Norwegian Nobel Committee believes it is now that Abiy Ahmed’s efforts deserve recognition and need encouragement.

The Norwegian Parliament appoints the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which selects the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the five Nobel Prizes established by the will of Swedish industrialist, inventor, and armaments manufacturer Alfred Nobel, along with the prizes in Chemistry, Physics, Physiology or Medicine, and Literature.

Till now, apart from the Nobel Peace Prize, the Nobel Prize in Medicine, Physics, Chemistry and Literature has been announced. The 2019 Nobel Prize for Medicine has been jointly awarded to William G. Kaelin Jr, Sir Peter J. Ratcliffe and Gregg L. The Noble Prize in Physics was awarded to James Peebles, Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz. The Prize in Chemistry was awarded to John B. Goodenough, M. Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshino. The Swedish academy awarded the prize to the three researchers “for the development of lithium-ion batteries.”
