Nikki Haley Slams New York Times For 'Fake News' on Her 'Expensive Curtains'
The article quoted US State Department documents to reveal that Haley's mechanised curtains are worth "USD 52,701" -- at a time when the Trump regime has implemented austerity measures for the employees.
Washington, Sept 21: Days after The New York Times retracted and reframed the story it published on 'expensive curtains" installed in Nikki Haley's official residence, the top Indian-American official in the Trump administration struck back, saying the report has defamed her.
In an interview to Fox News on Thursday, Haley slammed the NYT for spreading "fake news". She said the publication was aware that the "expensive curtains" were installed by the State Department in the New York-based residence way before she was accommodated into it.
"I hadn't even taken the job when these curtains were picked out. And so, the idea that this came out, we told the reporters that these were the facts. They knew the facts and they released the story anyway," said Haley, the incumbent US envoy to the United Nations.
The original version of the article, titled 'Nikki Haley's View of New York is Priceless. Her Curtains? USD52,701', was published 7 days ago by the NYT. On being pointed out about the factual discrepancies, the publication apologised and retracted the story.
The article was re-published online, with amendments to the content and title. The new headline reads as follows: 'State Department Spent USD52,701 on Curtains for Nikki Haley's Residence'.
The article quoted US State Department documents to reveal that Haley's mechanised curtains are worth "USD 52,701" -- at a time when the Trump regime has implemented austerity measures for the employees.
